Divorce / Relationship Breakdown
The relationship ended. Figuring out who you are now is the part nobody prepared you for.
Have you recently gone through a painful breakup, separation, or divorce? Are you feeling lost, overwhelmed, or unsure of who you are without the relationship? You’re not alone and you don’t have to navigate this transition by yourself.
At The Heart of Healing, we specialize in supporting individuals through the emotional, psychological, and practical challenges of divorce. Whether you’re just starting the process or still struggling months or even years after it ended, therapy can help you reclaim your voice, rebuild your life, and find peace again.
Does any of this feel familiar?
- Grief and sadness over the future you thought you’d have.
- Anger and resentment that flares at the worst moments.
- Fear of being alone, or of starting over at this stage.
- Guilt about the kids, the family, the way it all unfolded.
- A strange identity loss. Who even am I now?
- Co-parenting with someone you can barely be in a room with.
- Relief and devastation in the same hour, which makes you feel like you’re losing it.
You’re not losing it. You’re grieving and rebuilding at the same time, which is genuinely one of the harder things a person does.
How therapy actually helps, not just "give it time"<br />
Time alone doesn’t heal this. What you do with the time does. Together we make sense of what happened, hold the messy feelings without judgment, and start building a life that’s yours again.
Therapy gives you a place to:
- Process the breakup and stop replaying it on a loop.
- Manage the big emotions, grief, anger, and fear, without drowning in them.
- Rebuild your confidence, identity, and sense of self-worth.
- Learn healthier communication, especially for co-parenting.
- Set new goals and create a life that actually feels like yours.
Whether your divorce was high-conflict, amicable, or somewhere in between, we offer in-person therapy in Toronto and virtual sessions across Ontario.

Divorce & Separation: Frequently Asked Questions
Should I come on my own or with my ex-partner?
This support is for you, individual therapy to help you process and rebuild. You don't need your ex involved. (If you're looking for couples or co-parenting work, let us know and we can talk about options.)
Is it too late if my separation was years ago?
Not at all. Grief over a divorce doesn't run on a timeline. Plenty of people come in months or even years later, still carrying it. Therapy helps whenever you're ready.
I'm the one who left. Is it normal that I still feel grief?
Completely normal. Choosing the ending doesn't spare you the loss of a future, an identity, and a life you'd planned. Your grief is valid no matter who initiated things.
Can therapy help with co-parenting?
Yes. We can help you manage the emotions, set boundaries, and build healthier communication so co-parenting feels less like a battlefield.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
Sessions are often covered, in full or in part, by extended health benefits that include psychotherapy or mental health treatment. It's always worth a quick check with your provider, and we're happy to walk you through what to ask.
Do you offer virtual divorce counselling across Ontario?
Yes. In-person in Toronto and virtual sessions throughout Ontario.
