Frequently Asked Questions About Fees and Insurance
Does OHIP cover therapy with a social worker or psychotherapist?
No. OHIP does not cover private psychotherapy or counselling. Many extended health plans through work or school do cover Registered Social Workers and Registered Psychotherapists, and we provide receipts you can submit.
Will my benefits cover a Registered Social Worker?
Very often, yes. Many Ontario plans list registered social worker or MSW as a covered category, sometimes with its own maximum. Plans vary, so check your booklet or call your insurer and ask specifically.
What is the difference between a Registered Social Worker and a Registered Psychotherapist, and does it matter for insurance?
Both are regulated Ontario professionals who provide talk therapy. Some plans list one but not the other, so check which provider type yours covers. Either can be a great fit, and we are happy to help you decide during your free consult.
Can I claim therapy on my taxes?
Many clients can claim their receipts as a medical expense. Check with your accountant or the CRA to confirm what applies to you.
Do you offer lower-cost options?
If cost is a concern, tell us during your consult. We offer a reduced-fee option with a student clinician who works under supervision. Spaces are limited and we keep a waitlist.
