Virtual therapy with registered Ontario clinicians
The Heart of Healing is a Toronto-based counselling and psychotherapy practice offering secure video sessions to children, teens, adults, couples and families anywhere in Ontario. Our team includes Registered Social Workers (MSW, RSW) and Registered Psychotherapists (RP), regulated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
Online therapy is the same kind of work as in person therapy, in a space where you may feel more at ease. You meet your clinician by video, from home or any private space in Ontario.
Why do people choose online therapy?
- No commute or parking: your session starts when you log in
- A clinician who fits: not just whoever is closest to you
- Easier to fit your life: around work, school or caregiving
- Comfort and privacy: talk from a space where you feel safe
- Access across the province: including smaller communities with fewer options
Online therapy is not the right fit for everyone, and it is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For support right now, call or text 9-8-8.
What do I need for my first online session?
- A private space where you will not be overheard
- A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone
- A steady internet connection (headphones help with privacy)
- To be physically located in Ontario during your session
Why you need to be in Ontario
Our clinicians are registered in Ontario, so we can only provide therapy to clients who are in Ontario at the time of the session. If you are travelling outside the province, we can pick up again when you are back.
Where do we offer online therapy?
We offer virtual sessions across the province, including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Ottawa, Hamilton, London, Kitchener-Waterloo and Barrie, and everywhere in between.
What can online therapy help with?
Is online therapy private and confidential?
Your personal health information is protected under Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the standards of our professional colleges. Sessions are held on a secure video platform. There are limited legal exceptions, such as a risk of serious harm or a child protection concern, which we explain at your first session.

Frequently Asked Questions About Online Therapy in Ontario
Is online therapy as effective as in person therapy?
For many concerns, including anxiety and depression, research has found that therapy by video can work about as well as in person therapy. Some situations are better suited to in person care, and we will talk honestly about fit during your free consult.
Can I have a session if I am travelling or out of the province?
No. Our clinicians are registered in Ontario, so you need to be physically in Ontario during your session.
Is online therapy covered by insurance in Ontario?
OHIP does not cover private therapy. Many extended health plans cover virtual sessions with Registered Social Workers and Registered Psychotherapists, but coverage varies. Check your plan, and see our fees and insurance page.
What happens if my internet drops mid-session?
Tell your clinician at the start how you would like to reconnect. A common plan is to switch to a phone call so you are not left waiting.
Do you see children and teens online?
Yes. We work with children, teens, adults, couples and families across Ontario. Ask us about the best format for your child's age during your free consult.
How do I get started?
Book a free 15-minute consult. It is a relaxed phone or video conversation where you share what is going on, we talk about fit, availability and fees, and answer your questions. There is no pressure to book.
Is therapy covered by OHIP?
OHIP does not generally cover psychotherapy or counselling with a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist in private practice. Many workplace extended health plans do. Check your plan wording, and ask us if you need a receipt for claims.
How do I check that a therapist is regulated in Ontario?
Search the public registers of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers for Registered Social Workers, or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario for Registered Psychotherapists. Both titles are legally protected in Ontario.
